HA Calculator

About HA Calculator

HA Calculator is a free set of calculators for people who 3D print: hobbyists checking what a print costs, and makers working out what to charge.

Why it exists

Most cost estimates only count filament. That works for short PLA prints, but it hides the cost of electricity, machine wear and failed prints, and it leads sellers to underprice. HA Calculator puts every cost in one place and shows its working.

How we calculate

  • Filament cost is the weight used multiplied by the price per gram of your spool.
  • Filament length and weight use the volume of a cylinder (π × radius² × length) multiplied by the material’s density.
  • Electricity is average power in kilowatts multiplied by hours and your price per kWh.
  • Machine wear spreads the printer’s price across its expected working hours.
  • Selling price divides total costs by (1 − fee % − margin %), so percentage fees charged on the final price are fully covered.

Material densities and temperature ranges are typical published values for unfilled filament. Each calculator page shows its formula and a worked example you can check by hand. The formulas are covered by automated tests that run before every update.
